1. Introduction

Welcome to ConNEXTion ("we," "our," or "us"). We are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring you have a positive experience using our mobile application. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use the ConNEXTion mobile application.

1.1 Age Requirements

ConNEXTion has platform-specific age requirements:

• iOS: You must be at least 18 years old to use ConNEXTion on iOS devices. This requirement is due to Apple's restrictions on Screen Time API access via the Family Controls framework.
• Android: You must be at least 13 years old to use ConNEXTion on Android devices.

By using ConNEXTion, you represent and warrant that you meet the minimum age requirement for your platform. If we discover that a user does not meet the age requirement, we will terminate their account.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information You Provide

• Account Information: Email address, display name, and profile photo (via Google Sign-In)
• League Data: League memberships, scores, activities, and participation data
• Settings and Preferences: App settings, daily goals, notification preferences
• Custom Categories: User-defined activity categories and biases (Premium feature)

2.2 Automatically Collected Information

• Usage Data: App usage statistics, screen time data (with your permission)
• Device Information: Device model, operating system version, unique device identifiers
• Analytics Data: App performance, crash reports, and usage patterns (via Firebase)

2.3 Permissions

• Camera: Used exclusively for scanning QR codes to join leagues. No photos or videos are captured or stored.
• Usage Access (Android): Optional permission to track screen time and app usage for wellness scoring. You must explicitly grant this permission.
• Screen Time Access (iOS): Optional permission to access Screen Time data via Apple's Family Controls framework for wellness tracking. See section 2.4 below for detailed information.
• Notifications: To send you reminders and updates about your leagues and activities

2.4 Screen Time Data Collection (iOS)

On iOS devices, ConNEXTion uses Apple's Screen Time API (Family Controls framework) to help you track your digital wellness. This feature is entirely optional and requires your explicit permission.

What We Collect

When you grant Screen Time permission, ConNEXTion collects:

• Daily Screen Time Totals: Total time spent on your device each day
• App Category Usage: Time spent in app categories (processed on your device only)
• Wellness Scores: Daily scores calculated from your usage patterns
• Usage Trends: Historical data showing your progress over time (up to 90 days)

What We DO NOT Collect

ConNEXTion respects your privacy. We explicitly DO NOT collect:

• Screen content, screenshots, or visual data from your device
• Specific app names or identifiers sent to our servers
• Usage data from other users on your device
• Location data tied to your usage patterns
• Cross-device tracking or usage from other Apple devices
• Communication content, contacts, or personal files
• Web browsing history or search queries
• Data from children or minors (app is restricted to adults 18+ on iOS, 13+ on Android)

How Data is Processed

• On-Device Processing (95%): All raw Screen Time data is processed locally on your iPhone. Your device categorizes apps into "doom," "productive," and "neutral" categories based on your preferences.
• Server Storage (5%): Only aggregated, anonymized metrics are sent to our servers:
  • Total daily screen time (in minutes)
  • Time in each category (doom/productive/neutral, in minutes)
  • Daily wellness score (calculated number)
  • No individual app names or detailed usage patterns
• Encryption: All data transmitted to our servers uses TLS 1.3 encryption
• Storage Security: Server-side data is encrypted at rest using Firebase's security infrastructure

Your Privacy Controls

You have complete control over Screen Time data:

• Grant Permission: Permission is requested only when you choose to enable tracking
• Revoke Anytime: You can revoke Screen Time permission at any time through iOS Settings → Screen Time → [Your Device] → ConNEXTion, or through the ConNEXTion app settings
• View Your Data: Access all collected data through the app's Insights screen
• Delete Your Data: Request deletion of all historical data through Settings → Privacy → Delete Usage Data
• Export Your Data: Download a copy of your data (GDPR/CCPA right)
• Pause Tracking: Temporarily pause tracking without deleting historical data
• Delete Account: Full account deletion removes all Screen Time data permanently within 30 days

Data Retention

• Active Users: Screen Time data is retained for 90 days to show trends and progress
• After 90 Days: Older data is automatically deleted unless you choose to export it first
• After Permission Revocation: Data collection stops immediately; existing data remains for 90 days or until you delete it
• After Account Deletion: All Screen Time data is permanently deleted within 30 days

Why We Need Screen Time API

ConNEXTion uses the Screen Time API to provide accurate, automatic wellness tracking. We considered alternatives (manual time entry, third-party apps, screenshots), but they compromise accuracy, user experience, or privacy. The Screen Time API provides:

• Accuracy: Precise tracking without user effort
• Fairness: Consistent measurement for league competition
• Privacy: On-device processing keeps your data secure
• Simplicity: No manual logging required

Alternative: Manual Entry

If you prefer not to grant Screen Time permission, ConNEXTion offers a manual entry option. You can log your daily screen time manually through the app. While less convenient, this allows you to participate in leagues and track your wellness without granting device permissions.

This is NOT a Parental Control App

ConNEXTion is designed for personal self-improvement, not parental monitoring. We do not:

• Block or restrict app usage
• Monitor other users on your device
• Share your data with parents, employers, or third parties
• Enforce usage limits or screen time restrictions
• Track children or minors (app is 18+ only)

All tracking is voluntary, self-directed, and for your personal wellness improvement.

Compliance

Our Screen Time data handling complies with:

• GDPR (EU): Articles 6, 7, 13, 15-17, 20, 25, 32
• CCPA (California): Right to know, delete, opt-out, non-discrimination
• COPPA: Age gate preventing users under 13
• App Store Guidelines: Section 2.5.13 (Family Controls), 5.1.2 (Data Use and Sharing)

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the collected information for the following purposes:

• To provide and maintain the ConNEXTion service
• To calculate wellness scores and track your progress
• To enable league participation and leaderboard features
• To process subscription payments (via Google Play Billing)
• To send notifications about your leagues and achievements
• To improve app functionality and user experience
• To detect and prevent fraud or abuse
• To comply with legal obligations

4. Data Sharing and Disclosure

4.1 Within Leagues

When you join a league, the following information is shared with other league members:

• Your display name and profile photo
• Your daily wellness scores
• Your league rankings and achievements
• Your badges and premium badges (if applicable)

4.2 Third-Party Service Providers

We use the following third-party services:

• Firebase (Google): Authentication, database, cloud functions, analytics, and crash reporting
• Google Play Services: In-app purchases and subscription management

These services may collect and process data in accordance with their own privacy policies.

4.3 Legal Requirements

We may disclose your information if required by law or in response to valid legal requests.

5. Data Storage and Security

• Cloud Storage: Your data is stored securely using Google Firebase with industry-standard encryption
• Local Storage: Some data is cached locally on your device for offline access
• Encryption: Sensitive data is encrypted both in transit and at rest
• Access Control: Strict access controls limit who can access your data

6. Your Data Rights

You have the right to:

• Access: Request a copy of your personal data
• Correction: Update or correct your information
• Deletion: Request deletion of your account and associated data

7. Data Retention

• Active account data is retained as long as your account is active
• After account deletion, most data is removed within 30 days

8. Children's Privacy

ConNEXTion has platform-specific age requirements as outlined in Section 1.1:

• Users must be at least 18 years old on iOS devices
• Users must be at least 13 years old on Android devices

We do not knowingly collect personal information from users who do not meet the minimum age requirement for their platform. If you believe we have collected information from someone who does not meet these age requirements, please contact us immediately at support@empirikallc.com and we will take appropriate action, including account termination if necessary.

9. Subscriptions and Payments

• Subscription payments are processed through Google Play Billing
• We do not store your credit card or payment information
• Subscription data (tier, status, expiry) is stored to provide premium features

10. International Data Transfers

Your data may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your own. We ensure appropriate safeguards are in place to protect your data in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

11. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by updating the "Last Updated" date and posting the new policy in the app. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
